ScubaTribe
ScubaTribe was founded in 2004 primarily as a place to share information, photographs and stories between friends in a relatively small group of Scuba enthusiasts. Our intention was to keep in contact with fellow divers, colleagues and previous students, with the hope of organizing a few trips now and again.
Since that time it has developed into the level you see now and we hope that it will continue to grow. It is a site dedicated to the community of divers around the world that we have met in our travels. This community is ever growing and we will strive to keep up with that growth.
The communal implications of the name ScubaTribe, although not entirely clear to us when we chose it, have been key to the success and continued attention we have gained and we feel it is grounded fully in what diving really is. The diving community has many Tribal aspects in that all its members, no matter where they are from, or what background they bring, are immediately included in the group. I have personally been on Dive Boats with as many as ten different nationalities represented and felt a definite sense of inclusion, even religion and language posed no barrier. I think all of us who have participated in the sport would be able to recount similar experiences.
Even within our own cultures or countries, as soon as you join the diving community, you are forever a member. At a party, someone mentions that they dive and soon all the divers in the room are grouped together comparing stories and advice. They come from all walks of life, Doctors, Plumbers, School Teachers, Politicians, etc. The range is complete and under normal circumstances these people may never find common ground. Under the water, however, they are all one and the same.
Diving is completely different from most other sports in that there is no competition, there are no spectators, and there is very little need to prove ones superiority. From professionals to beginners, a shared sense of wonder as we dip beneath the waves, joins us together. It is a sport that promises a unique and exhilarating experience with every dive. Even making several dives at the same location offers variety not found anywhere above the surface.
The biodiversity even in the artic seas eclipses the densest of rainforests for variety and wonder. It has been said that one can see more different expressions of life in five minutes on a coral reef than they would see on a week long safari in the wilds of Africa. It is a sport which we love and plan to continue actively participating in to the end of days.
Unfortunately the Underwater world is in need of immediate assistance and through this site we hope to lend some. We have included several sections dealing with Charities and Environmental issues where you can inform yourself of the plight of the Worlds Oceans. We will include information where you, as a diver and human being, can help, be it in your everyday life, your diving activities, and your interactions with the environment.
We welcome all new members to our community with open arms and look forward to your contribution. We hope that whatever you put in will be returned to you tenfold and in our experience, that is a sure bet. Please feel free to have a look around, leave a message, ask a question, offer suggestions and/or give us your opinion. A tribe is a sum of its parts.
Your ScubaTribe team.
