Simply Scuba - online Scuba shop With the advent of the Industrial Revolution and the continued increase in population world wide, all aspects of our environment are beginning to show signs of distress and degradation. Many we are aware of on a global scale, for example: Rainforest depletion, Global Warming or deterioration of the ozone layer, and some only receive attention on a local level, such as decreasing water levels in over populated cities, certain species reaching the endangered population levels or increased risk of landslides in deforested areas. The negative effects of our modern industrialized world above the surface of the sea has been clearly cited and brought to the attention of the worlds Governments 30, 40 and even 100 years ago. Even though there is still a fair bit of disagreement as to the exact nature and cause of these effects as well as the solutions, at least they are being openly debated on a global scale. The plight of the worlds oceans, however, has been overlooked by many until relatively recently, and even now is not discussed as openly as it should be.

With the current population of the world at over 6 billion and a large percentage of that population dependant on the seas bounty, we are continuously increasing the pressures on the Oceans to provide our sustenance. Over fishing and pollution have brought us to the point where our oceans, rivers and lakes cannot produce enough to satisfy our hunger. It is imperative, therefore, that we act now to enforce sustainable and responsible fishing practices and strive to reduce pollution and damage to the Marine environment. If the earths land surfaces were all reduced to desert and wasteland, we could still survive with the Oxygen and food produced by the ocean, but without that sustenance, more than just the human race would be doomed to extinction.

As a father and lover of the underwater world I have created this section in order to inform you of this critical situation and offer up to date information so that, with your help, our children may look forward to enjoying the wonders of the sea with which we have fallen in love. I will endeavour to post real news about successes in the fight against the destruction of the seas, information about current and future threats to this world through its oceans, rivers and lakes, and information about the charities and organizations that are making real progress in the fight for protection of our water ways. I will also include a section describing ways that we, as selective consumers, conscientious divers and compassionate humans can contribute to this fight.

If you have heard of any news or information that you would like to share with the ScubaTribe community, please feel free to drop us a line with information using the contact page, post it in the Forums, or send us an email. Also if you have any ideas on how we can improve this section, we are always happy to hear new views. The only way to reverse the current trends and conserve the wonders of the Sea for ourselves and future generations is with immediate action.

Thanks for dropping by,

Your ScubaTribe team.
